Born in Wellington, Cole Hawkins grew up playing many sports including wrestling. Having previously represented New Zealand at the World Championships for Canoe Polo, Hawkins shifted focus to Wrestling.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games was Cole's first. He competed in the 74kg Freestyle division. Cole trains in Wellington under Olympian Graeme Hawkins and 2010 Commonwealth Games representative Nick Lane for the Tawa Wrestling Club.
