New Zealand’s two shooters didn’t progress past the qualifying round today.

The experienced Ryan Taylor of Levin was 16th among the 47 competitors in the qualifying round of the 50m prone rifle. Only the top six progressed.

Taylor, who also competed at the 2004 and 2012 Olympics, totalled 622.4, well behind the leading qualifier, Russian Sergey Kamenskiy, who set an Olympic record of 629.

In the women’s skeet qualifying, 25-year-old Cantabrian Chloe Tipple finished 13th of 21 competitors. Her rounds were 21, 23, 23 for a total of 67. The top qualifier was Meng Wei of China, whose 73 included two maximums.

Only six skeet shooters progressed to the next stage.
