Kayla Whitelock, New Zealand Olympian #951, has been elected to the Oceania National Olympic Committee’s Athletes Commission.

The former New Zealand hockey captain represented New Zealand at four Olympic Games, three Commonwealth Games and two World Cups, notching up 256 caps and 63 goals in the process.

Whitelock was elected alongside Australian canoe athlete Ken Wallace, Samoan taekwondo athlete Kaino Thomsen-Fuataga and Fijian swimming athlete Matelita Buadromo.

Whitelock says she's a proud athlete advocate and is looking forward to working with the commission.

"I've made strong connections with the pacific over the years and am passionate about ensuring all athletes get the chance to perform to the best of their abilities," said Whitelock.

The ONOC Athletes’ Commission (ONOC AC), was established in 2005 and provides support to athletes of all 17 Oceania National Olympic Committees (NOCs). It is part of the IOC international structure giving athletes a voice in every facet of the Olympic Movement.

The newly elected representatives will join Sarah Walker (Deputy Chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission and IOC Member), Papua New Guinea’s Ryan Pini (Pacific Games Council’s Athlete Representative) and Australia’s Jessica Fox (IOC Athletes’ Commission Member). All three members automatically get a seat on the ONOC AC Executive because of their roles with the IOC and the Pacific Games Council.
