Trael Joass won a gold medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games as part of the men's rugby sevens team.

Joass is one of three Tasman Makos that burst into the All Blacks Sevens squad after the 2017 National Sevens. Joass captained the Mako team to their best sevens result and went on to make his All Blacks Sevens debut in Sydney just weeks later. The powerful athlete also plays for the Makos in the Mitre 10 Cup.
