With rapid racket-work and sharp shifting around the court, Squash is a breathtaking spectacle of frenetic action and fast-thinking.

A Quick Overview

Squash sees two opponents compete in a walled court. Players take it in turns to hit a small rubber ball against the front wall. If the ball is not returned before it bounces twice, the opponent wins a point.

The game is won by the first player to reach 11 points, but in singles, if the score is ten-all, the game continues until one competitor achieves a two point lead.

Singles matches are played as a best of five games, while doubles battles are played as a best of three.

The Games is also one of the few international squash events that includes doubles play, with mens’, women’s and mixed pairs bringing the total number of Gold medal events to five.

Previous Commonwealth Games Appearances

Squash made its debut at the 1998 Games in Kuala Lumpur. As a core sport, it has appeared at every edition since.

Fun Fact

The first players used rubber balls that squashed against the walls when hit, giving the sport its name.
