Nick Willis has smashed his new Zealand 1500 metres record, running 3 minutes 30.35 seconds, finishing third at the Monaco Diamond League meeting this morning. In a very quick race, Willis has taken 1.44 seconds off the time he ran at the same meeting in Monaco last year. The time is also an Oceania record, beating the time of 3m 31.06s set by Australian Ryan Gregson in 2010. The race was won by Beijing Olympic champion Asbel Kiprop from Kenya in the worlds fastest time for 2012 of 3m 28.88s, followed by fellow Kenyan Nixon Chepseba in 3m 29.77s. Willis result comes two weeks before the London Olympic 1500 metres heats. For full race results visit http://www.diamondleague-monaco.com/en/Program/Overview/1500m/ London 1908 Olympic Summer Games
