Misha Koudinov found the going too tough in the artistic gymnastics competition.

Koudinov, who was born in Vladivostok but spent his formative years in Auckland, finished the all-round competition in 45th place among the 50 starters.

The top 24 progress, but Koudinov was some way from that barrier.

His best individual apparatus score was 14.700 on the parallel bars and his vault of 14.133 was solid. However, Koudinov struggled in other disciplines. He scored 13.433 on the rings, 13.200 on the floor, 12.833 on the high bar and 12.600 on the pommel horse.

The New Zealander totalled 80.899, well behind to qualifier Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine, whose tally was 91.964.

Koudinov is only 25 but has considerable international experience. He first came to light when he represented New Zealand at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games at the age of just 14.
