Zane Robertson, who hails for Waikato but bases himself in Ethiopia, set a national record in finishing 12th in the 10,000m today.

Robertson, 26, clung to the pace being set by Mo Farah and other superstars of distance running for as long as he could. Finally, at 8000m he drifted off the pace, though still churning out the laps at a good clip.

Robertson was timed at 27min 33.67s. He clipped eight seconds off the time of 27min 41.95 that Dick Quax set in London in 1977.

Farah, representing Great Britain, retained his Olympic crown, winning in 27min 05.17s.
