Today was a proud day to be a kiwi with an impressive 10 medal haul in athletics, gymnastics and swimming!!! First up was an impressive bronze medal at the track in the 200m by Dalton Coppins. Dalton has not been able to keep the smile off his face all day. Triple jumper Greer Alsop also secured a silver medal in her first jump, being narrowly beaten by an Aussie. Kerry White, and Kieron McDonald running in the 800m and Matt Baxter running in the 3000m, missed medals but ran with true kiwi determination. Thrower Alex Fafeita broke the age group national record twice for the hammer, only to miss out on the medals by 40cm! Kyle van der Merwe, Richard Callister and Che Kenneally braved the wind and rain to produce some solid throws! Fantastic effort guys! Meanwhile over at the womens gymnastics, Brittany Robertson was stunning on the floor to win a coveted silver medal in a world-class group of finalists which included two London Olympic bound English gymnasts. In the pool the kiwis once again shone tonight winning a massive seven medals to add to their collection. Sophia Batchelor steamrolled her competition in the 100m Butterfly and posted a new open womens national record along the way! Cory Main and Matt Hutchins both grabbed gold in the 100 Backstroke and 400 Freestyle respectively. Natasha Lloyds perseverance paid off as she breaststroked her way to a bronze medal and was ecstatic with the result! Our mens and womens relay teams both scored bronze medals in the last events of the night. Much to the delight of the Aussies, the New Zealand national anthem got an absolute thrashing. The haka that welcomed our medallists back to the team digs was the best yet, and was closely followed by a birthday celebration for Mackenzie Keenan who turned 17 today! Three days of competition have flown by! Athletes, coaches and managers are over the moon with the fabulous results by every member of our team! There have been some complimentary comments from several quarters about the conduct and attitude of our team which is really nice to hear. We are all looking forward to the Cultural Day tomorrow
