New Zealander Qona Christie bowed out of the women’s 57kg judo competition.

In her opening bout Christie, 23, lost to Christianne Lengentil of Mauritius after a hard-fought contest that went the full allotted four minutes.

Lengenti won by virtue of a waza-ari she achieved about 30 seconds before the bout ended.

The result pushed Christie into the repechage round and there she was beaten 10-0 in 1min 33s by Malin Wilson of Scotland, whose ippon signalled the end of the bout.
