New Zealand’s lawn bowlers scored two wins and a loss on the opening morning of competition.

In the women’s singles, Cantabrian Katelyn Inch had to fight hard to get past Singapore’s Shermeen Lim, before winning 21-17.

The New Zealander made a poor start and things looked bleak when she trailed 10-2 after eight ends. However, she picked herself up and finally got her nose in front when she scored four on the 17th end to go ahead 16-14.

It was never comfortable though and the 26-year-old Inch was very pleased to reach the finish line.

Inch has a good bowls pedigree, including being chosen for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, but many of her best results, including a world championship bronze medal, have come in fours.

In the men’s triples, Ali Forsyth (skip), Andrew Kelly and Mike Galloway made short work of an outclassed Indian team. The New Zealanders led 12-3 after 11 ends and never let up the pressure, eventually winning 23-6.

There wasn’t such good news for New Zealand in the para men’s pairs where Australians Damien Delgado and Chris Flavel were too consistent for Mark Noble (skip) and Graham Skellern and won 17-7.
