Andrea Anacan became New Zealand's first ever Olympic karate athlete when she competed at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Anacan began karate at aged four in the Philippines. She moved to New Zealand aged 12 where she continued to train under sensei Johnny Ling.

At age 14 she gave up competing in the contact version of karate, kumate, and chose to focus on the non-contact version of kata instead.

Anacan finished seventh at the 2018 karate world championships.
