Trampoline athlete Dylan Schmidt isn’t letting lockdown regulations get him down.

The Rio Olympian is isolating with his family and coach in Auckland, where he’s back training on his childhood trampoline.

“We’ve actually been trying to sell this tramp for ages but we haven’t got round to it so it’s just been sitting round the side of the house for 10 years,” said Schmidt.

“We grabbed it out when lockdown started and it’s still working so I’ve been doing lots of basics on that and then doing gym sessions at home as well so I’m feeling pretty good.”

The 23-year-old is having a busy time in lockdown.

As well as training Schmidt is studying towards his degree online. He’s also the proud owner of a puppy, which he picked up just one day before the lockdown began.

“His name’s taco and he’s awesome, he’s definitely keeping me busy. He’s getting me up in the mornings and I’m planning my days around him at the moment.”

Schmidt admits the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games took a while to sink in, but he’s planning to use the delay as an advantage.

“We’ll get there eventually and this just gives me more time to prepare, get the little things right and then I’m just gonna really enjoy it when I get there.”
