Trap shooter Natalie Rooney, aiming to emulate or better her silver medal performance from Rio, will have her work cut out on the second day of qualifying at the Asaka Shooting Range tomorrow.

Rooney, from Timaru, had three rounds of 23 (out of 25) for a total score of 69 on day one of the qualifying that leaves her in 18th spot among the field of 26.

The leader is Zuzana Rebak Stefecekova of Slovakia  who nailed all 75 shots in a perfect display of marksmanship to lead by one from Italy’s Silvana Stanco and Alessandra Parilli of San Marino.

The top six after the final two rounds tomorrow will  advance to the shoot-off. Australian Penny Smith sits sixth on 72 after day one.
