Hamilton athlete Julia Ratcliffe finished ninth in the women’s hammer throw tonight.

Ratcliffe had throws of 72.61m, 72.69m and 71.79m and after three rounds was in ninth position, with only the top eight qualifying for a further three throws.

In the hammer throw qualifying competition on Sunday, Ratcliffe’s best was a throw of 73.20m.

Ratcliffe, 28, came into the Olympic competition with a world ranking of 17.

The event was won by Anita Wlodarczyk, one of three Poles in the final. She threw 78.49m.
