The New Zealand badminton team had a gentle introduction to the Commonwealth Games with a 5-0 win over Jamaica in their first pool match.
The New Zealanders, especially the women, were a class ahead.
In the singles matches, Joe Wu beat Charles Pyne 21-13, 21-17 and Michelle Chan beat Alya Lewis 21-7, 21-10.
The New Zealand womens doubles pairing of Donna Haliday and Danielle
Barry outplayed Lewis and Kristal Karjohn 21-1, 21-5, but in the mens doubles, Henry Tam and Oliver Leydon-Davis had to work harder to beat Garron Palmer and Gareth Henry 21-18, 21-18.
In the mixed doubles, Haliday and Tam beat Henry and Karjohn 21-14, 21-14.
