The first of 70,000 volunteers proudly named the Games Makers have just been conditionally assigned their roles for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Since the application process commenced in 2010 over a quarter of a million people applied, and organisers LOCOG have been deep in the interview and selection process matching the most suitable candidates for the roles they are looking for. With training due to start for the first volunteers in February, LOCOG will continue to make conditional offers well into April 2012 with over 100,000 potential volunteers expected to have been interviewed by then. Everybody who has applied to become a Games-Maker will be contacted by December this year with news of whether they have been offered a role, been offered an interview date or told they have been unsuccessful. Hugh Robertson, Olympics Minister, would like to congratulate all those who have been offered Games Maker roles. In the statement made by him he emphasises the importance of the volunteers declaring that the Games Makers will be integral to the success of the Games and in particular the impression we make upon the global sports family. Mayor of London Boris Johnson added: Games Maker volunteers will provide welcoming faces around the venues to athletes, spectators and the world's media when they descend on our great city next year. Combined with the forces of my London Ambassadors, part of our ever growing Team London volunteer army, we will be in great shape to give people coming to the capital in 2012 a truly unforgettable experience. The countdown is now well and truly underway and it is enthusiastic and dedicated people such as the Game-Makers who we are sure to make the athletes, spectators and the media feel welcome in London and ensure the 2012 Games are a huge success.
