International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge will be arriving in New Zealand tomorrow ahead of the Rugby World Cup finals this weekend. The former rugby player for Belgiums national team makes an effort to attend top sporting events outside of the Olympics so will be observing the closing stages of the Rugby World Cup. Rogge will also discuss the introduction of Rugby Sevens at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with Olympic and Rugby officials. Rogge will also be here to celebrate the New Zealand Olympic Committees (NZOCs) centenary and will be guest of honour at a black tie centenary dinner on Thursday. The IOC President will also attend a high level meeting with government and sporting leaders and and will open the ational Training Centre for High Performance Sport on Friday. Joining Rogge in New Zealand are a number of IOC membersincluding John Coates (AUS) Prince Tunku Imran, Dr. Robin Mitchell, Chiharu Igaya, Tsunekazu Takeda, Kevan Gosper and His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco. Current New Zealand members of the IOC, Barbara Kendall and Barry Maister, will also be part of the activities with the visiting IOC members. IOC members will complete their stay with an opportunity to enjoy some of New Zealands stunning scenery before departing on Tuesday 25 October.
