Today was a relaxing day for the NZ Winter Youth Olympic Team in Innsbruck. Curlers (Eleanor Advenito, David Weyer, Kelsi Heath and Luke Steele) were our only athletes to compete today. The team played against Korea and lost 9-4 at the Exhibition Centre. Coaches Liz Matthews and Peter Becker said they "are very proud of the four curling athletes, think they have performed brilliantly in this competition." Many of our athlete spent their day at Congress taking part in the Culture and Education Program which runs concurrently with the sports competition. Luger Matheson Hill and biathlete Olivia Thomson put on an apron and chef hat and took part in the Be the Chef workshop. Salmon with mustard sauce and lentils were on the menu! Matheson also participated in Parkour which is the art of moving above and around obstacles at the Congress Centre. Team Services Manager Evelyn Williamson travelled up to Nordkette today to take part in the Mountain Awareness program. She thoroughly enjoyed herself and said the view was simply stunning. The team celebrated Nadja Walch`s birthday tonight with traditional Austrian chocolate cake. Nadja is one of our two Innsbruck 2012 volunteers who assists our team during games time. Needless to say the cake disappeared very quickly. Tomorrow our alpine athlete, Piera Hudson, hits the snow for the giant slalom event.
