Karen Hanlen of Whakatane finished 18th in the Olympic womens mountain bike race at Hadleigh Farm, Essex, today. Hanlens time was 1min 37.54s. The race was won by Frenchwoman Julie Bresset in 1min 30.52s, 7min 02s ahead of the New Zealander. Sabine Spitz of Germany was second and Georgia Gould of the United States third. There were 30 starters. The 32-year-old New Zealand mother of two held a midfield position throughout the journey, but wasnt helped by a puncture to her back tyre and a crash that dropped her back a few places.
