Ryan Fox, New Zealand’s sold entrant in the men’s golf, had a frustrating day.

Fox, 34, began the day in 31st position, one under par, after shooting a 70 in his first round. With some low scoring going on around him, he needed to make some birdies to get among the leaders.

Instead he trod water, making a bogey on the par-four ninth and a birdie on the par-four 11th, but otherwise recording a string of pars.

On a weather-interrupted day, Fox played 15 holes before play was halted. He remained one-under for the tournament and had slipped to 39th equal position.

American Xander Schauffele held the lead, having completed a second round of 63 to be 11 under par after 36 holes.

Pushing Schauffele is Mexican Carlis Ortiz, who is one behind.

Irishman Rory McIlroy made a move, shooting a 66 to be seven under par and within striking distance.
