Olympic gold medallist Emma Twigg has confirmed she’s looking to defend her title at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

If selected it’ll be the fifth Olympics for the 36-year single sculler who jokes that she’s now the ‘grandma’ of the New Zealand rowing squad.

“This is the commitment that Paris is on the agenda for me,” said Twigg.

“My time away from the sport has reinforced that I do love being in the rowing boat. I know I only have a limited time left so I need to make the most of that.”

Twigg’s first Olympic Games was Beijing 2008 where she placed ninth in the single scull. She then placed fourth at both London and Rio before striking gold in Tokyo.

She says she wouldn’t be aiming for Paris if she didn’t think she could defend her title.

“Absolutely, without a doubt that’s what the goal is. There’s some amazing athletes ten years my junior but I think if I do my best then there’s no reason I can’t win gold again."
