Today the kiwis captured a rainbow of medals! There were outstanding performances in the swimming pool, gymnastic stadium and athletics arena. Reid McGowan can only be described as fearless. Our only male gymnast had a stunning day in the mens all round competition. Reid placed fourth overall and gained the top score on the parallel bars. He will be in the rings and high bar apparatus finals tomorrow. Brittany Robertson won a silver medal today in the womens all round gymnastics final, beating two English girls who are heading to the London Olympics! Watch out for this young athlete in the future! Charlotte Sullivan our other gymnast competing today, performed with distinction placing 7th in a very strong field. Che Kenneally threw her way to a bronze medal in the womens shot put finals. Although this was our only medal on the athletics field today, there were bundles of PBs and strong performances. Tomorrow nights 100m mens final will be an exciting one with kiwis Kodi Harmon and Dalton Coppins fighting their way into this race this morning. Kerry White had a very steady run, placing second in her 800m heat to qualify for the semis. Kieron McDonald also made the 800m final which will be run tomorrow. Well done mate! Greer Alsop jumped her way to a new PB of 5.83m, while Madison Gipson and Makenzie Keenan hurdled their way into the final of the womens 100m hurdles where they placed 6th and 7th respectively. Tom Symes left nothing in the tank for his 400m race, well done for never giving up! In the Discus Richard Callister had an unlucky day throwing, but has tomorrows Hammer competition to make ammends. The swimmers enjoyed more success in the pool! A special mention to Cory Main for grabbing a gold medal and a national age group record in the 50m backstroke, Matt Hutchings a silver in the 1500m freestyle (60 lengths!) and Alex Hancock for his bronze medal in the 100m butterfly! The mens relay team consisting of these three swimmers and Michael Mincham came fourth in a nail-biting exciting 4 x 100m freestyle relay. Back at the team headquarters the team performed a fantastic haka to Brittany, Che and the swim team. We cant wait for the last day of competition tomorrow!
