Today every athlete worked up a serious sweat during their pre-Games training! The boxers got off to an early start with an intense training session at the Manx Boxing Gym. Co-incidentally this gym is run by a kiwi who was only too happy to allow our boxers extra sessions. Cheers mate! The boxers certainly deserved a big breakfast after skipping and pad and bag work. The pastries however were off limits as our boxers have to maintain their competition weight (60, 64 and 75 kg)! Reid, our solo male gymnast, also had a tough morning workout in the Mens gym. After walking around the room on his hands, Reid worked on his splits. Strong and flexible! Our three young gymnasts were equally as impressive, flipping and spinning effortlessly on the beam and the bar. They made it look too easy. Our athletics team had two training sessions today. Shot puts, hammers and javelins were thrown, batons exchanged and hurdles jumped. This team is verrrry speedy even running into the gale force head winds which howled through the Isle of Man today. The swimmers glided through the water like fish in the pool at the National Sports Centre. This 8 person team has fantastic team morale and are very focussed on their training. The team practiced their dives, starts and turns under the watchful eyes of Phillip Rush and Brigette Mahan. Interestingly Phillip holds the record for swimming the English channel three times in a row! The team had another fun haka practice led by Cory Miles, who facilitated an inter-team competition. Team doctor Chan doubled as a judge and declared the athletics team as the haka winner. Tu meke! The group then shot off to bed, exhausted but excited for the team function tomorrow!
