International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge arrives in New Zealand this evening ahead of the Centenary of the New Zealand Olympic Committee tomorrow and Rugby World Cup finals this weekend. He will be joined in New Zealand by several visiting IOC members including John Coates (Australia), Prince Tunku Imran (Malaysia), Dr. Robin Mitchell (Fiji), Chiharu Igaya (Japan), Tsunekazu Takeda (Japan), Kevan Gosper (Australia) and His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco. They will be joined by New Zealands own IOC members, Barbara Kendall and Barry Maister. An Olympic yachtsman and former Belgian representative rugby player, the President of the IOC will take a keen interest in New Zealands hosting of the Rugby World Cup and will use the opportunity to discuss the introduction of Rugby Sevens to the Olympic programme with Olympic, government and rugby officials. He will attend an exhibition Olympic Rugby Sevens game as part of New Zealand Olympic centenary celebrations as well as meet with government and sporting leaders ahead of the opening of the National Training Centre for High Performance Sport on Friday.
