The Black Sticks men are “focussed, fizzed and excited to show what they can do on the big stage” ahead of the Hockey World Cup in India.

The team has departed New Zealand for the World Cup, stopping in Kuala Lumpur on the way for a warm up series against Malaysia where they’ve won their first two matches.

“The team is feeling really good and confident,” says midfielder George Muir.

“It’s been great to get into camp early and into a high-performance environment where we can get ourselves really geared up for the World Cup,” said George Muir.

The warm up Games have given the team the chance to iron out any issues, with the World Cup beginning November 28th.

“It’s mostly just been little tweaks and working on our connections. We’ve been doing some research on our oppositions but ultimately it’s been about us and getting ourselves playing with good touch and confidence as we hit game one.”

The Black Sticks begin their campaign against minnows France on November 29th. They’ll also meet Spain and world number two ranked Argentina in pool play.

“The boys are fizzing and everyone is really excited to show what we’ve got against the world’s best.”

“We’re well prepared for the challenges that Bhubaneswar [India] will bring so we are looking forward to absorbing the atmosphere that Indian hockey and supporters bring. Bring it on!”
