Dunedin athlete Ella Cox has placed 18th in the women’s luge at the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

Competing in the women’s singles 17-year-old Cox recorded a combined time of 1:52.59s across her two runs.

“My runs weren’t as good as I’d hoped. My sled skidded at the top of the track on both my runs, that’s a really critical part of the track and it lost me loads of time,” said Cox.

“I still really enjoyed the experience though. I’ve made so many friends and have met loads of amazing athletes. It’s been a real honour to compete with this group and learn from them.”

Luge is being held at Switzerland’s famed St Moritz-Celerina Bobrun which hosted the 1924 and 1948 Olympic Winter Games.

Ella will compete again in the luge mixed team relay on January 20th.

“I’m really looking forward to the relay. We’re competing with two athletes form Chinese Taipei so that should be a bit of fun.”

Her teammate Hunter Burke competes in the men’s singles tomorrow (January 18th).
