Trent spent his early years in Northland where he discovered BMX riding in an inter-school challenge and was hooked. Trent won first national title at 11 years and with it earned his first international against Australia. His first venture to a world championship was finishing fifth in the 16 years title in 2010 in South Africa and was 5th in the Junior Elite in 2012 in UK.

Trent was a semi-finalist in the elite grade at the worlds in 2013 in Auckland and 2015 in Belgium. Trent is the current New Zealand Champion and won the Oceania Championship in January 2016, helping him rise inside the world's top 10 ranked riders in 2016.

Trent, who has been based mostly in the BMX hotbed of the United States for the last two years, missed the world championships this year with injury.

Rio 2016 was Trent's first Olympic Games.
