Tokyo 2020 was Patrick Bevin's first Olympic Games experience competing in the Road Cycling events.
Bevin competed at the junior world championships on the track and the road. He was snapped up by US-based Bissell Pro Cycling as a teenager, racing under their colours for four years, enjoying stage wins in Ireland and USA, and finished on the podium in the national championships. Bevin return to New Zealand, and after a World Cup win on the track, he was selected for the team to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
He moved back to the road with the breakthrough in 2016 when he was signed to the World Tour with Cannondale for two years, then on to the crack BMC Racing (which morphed into Team CCC) and this year to Israel Start-Up Nation.
Bevin has won a stage of the Santos Tour Down Under in 2019 and has a number of World Tour podiums, especially as a time trialler. He was edged out of a bronze medal by three seconds at the world championships in 2019 by current world champion Filippo Ganna.
