Hammer throw athlete Julia Ratcliffe broke down in tears, overcome with emotion after winning gold at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The win was an improvement on the silver medal she won four years previously at Glasgow 2014.
Ratcliffe is back in New Zealand after completing a degree in the United States at Princeton University. While in the USA she won the prestigious NCAA title in the hammer in 2014.
She also represented New Zealand at the 2013, 2015 and 2017 World University Games, taking the Bronze Medal in 2015.
Ratcliffe is coached by her father Dave and competes for the Hamilton City Hawks Club.
She has a personal best of 70.75m which is a New Zealand record.
