Jonelle Price (Richards) was born in Nelson in 1980. Even though she grew up in Motueka in a non-horsey family, she said conceded had always had a bit of a “weird obsession” with horses.

In Motueka she was friends with a girl named Rebecca Verity, who had horses, and that is where Prices' love of horses originated. After finishing school, she went off to study law at Canterbury University, only briefly as it turned out.
