Clarke Johnstone grew up on a sheep and cattle farm in Otago and was enticed into the world of equestrian through his sister.

Since then he has had plenty of success both on and offshore. At 19 he was the youngest ever winner of an eventing World Cup qualifier and was a member of the bronze medal winning team at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

Johnstone has won all of New Zealand's significant titles, including including the Horse of the Year Eventer of the Year crown, the Kihikihi International Horse Trials, the National Three Day Title and Puhinui.

In 2010-2011 he won the FEI World Cup Eventing series.
