Charmian has been a regular in the WNBL since 1999 and made her debut for New Zealand in 2001 against Australia. She was also NZ U23 MVP that year, but did not return to the national team until last year, when she was recalled for the Oceania Championships against the Opals. Charmian played for the Flames in the Australian WNBL over the summer and sister Natalie is on scholarship at the University of Southeast Missouri.
