Brian was introduced to shooting by his parents. As a child he spent hours firing thousands of air rifle pellets into homemade targets on cardboard boxes. Brian's fist experience of fullbore target shooting (an event shot with a .308 rifle at distances back to 1000 yards) came in his first year as a student at Otago University.

Each year New Zealand shooters are joined by international visitors to compete for the "Ballinger Belt" ( New Zealand's oldest sporting trophy ) in the often difficult winds that prevail on the Trentham range at Upper Hutt. Brian regards his 3 victories in 2006, 2008 and 2012 as his best shooting achievements to date.

Brian works full time as a solicitor in Whakatane where he lives with his partner Linda, and his children, Caitlin and Josh.
