Bobbi's first major international competition was the 2013 FINA World Junior Championships. The following year she claimed a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
Her first senior international event was the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan where she set a PB in the 200m backstroke in 2:13.45. She also competed in the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Returning to the FINA World Junior Championships in 2015, Bobbi claimed bronze in the 100m backstroke and set a NZ Age Group (15 years) record in 1:00.42.
Bobbi won gold in the 100m & 200m backstroke at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.
In 2017 she won the national titles in the 100m and 200m backstroke and was second in the 50m backstroke, qualifying for the 17th FINA World Championships as part of the women's 4x100m medley relay.
At the 2017 FINA World Championships, Gichard was selected as a medley relay swimmer for the championships and competed in the 100m and 200m backstroke.
