About

For the 16 New Zealand athletes who wore the silver fern at the thrilling Vancouver Olympic Games, the venues and facilities were second to none. From Cypress Mountain to Whistler and the downtown ice-rinks, the spirit of the Olympic Games and the caliber of competition inspired our athletes to excel. The first day of the Games was marred by the tragic loss of the young Georgian athlete Nodar Kumaritashvili, in an horrific luge crash. The New Zealand team, along with 3,600 athletes from more than 70 countries, honoured his memory at the Opening Ceremony and throughout the entire Olympic Games.
