A change of heart from the Olympic selectors saw a team of four selected to compete in the United States, including skier Bill Hunt who represented New Zealand at Oslo, eight years previous. Accompanying Hunt in the team to Squaw Valley was Sam Chaffey, Patricia Prain and 16 year old Cecilia Womersley. More respectable results were produced but still no one finished in the top half of their field.
