A first medal for New Zealand and a first medal for the Southern Hemisphere. Annelise Coberger won silver in the slalom in Albertville to record the best result ever for an athlete from this part of the world at a Winter Olympic Games. Annelise was joined in France by veteran male skier Simon Wi Rutene and a ski racing team on the verge of big things. The ice racing team included the Nicholson brothers, Andrew (who was also to attend Winter Games at Lillehammer and Nagano) and Chris, Mike McMillen, Tony Smith and Matthew Biggs.
