Glasgow 2014 was the first Commonwealth Games for Sophie, and a Games laden with medals for the para-swimmer. Sophie won gold in both the SM10 200m individual medley and the SB9 100m breaststroke, battling an infection to perform in her final race.

Sophie has established herself as a strong contender in  In 2012 Sophie represented New Zealand at the Paralympic Games in London, where she won gold in the 200m IM, 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle, and silver in the 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke. At the 2013 IPC World Championships Sophie won gold in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke and the 200m IM.
