Glasgow 2014 was the second Commonwealth Games for Sam, winning bronze in the 97kg category and stepping up to the podium after his 4th placing in the Greco-Roman event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Sam placed 5th at the Commonwealth Championships in South Africa in December 2013 and he is the current Oceania Champion (96kg category) for 2014.
