Ryan Archibald

Known as Scratchy to his team-mates, Ryan is one of the world’s best midfielders and is respected amongst his peers the world over. Originally from Auckland, he is currently plying his trade for Rotterdam in the Dutch National League and has been a stand-out player for them in the recently introduced Euro Hockey League, featuring some of the world’s best players. His strengths are his vision and ball control and he often dazzles defences with some superb attacking runs where he eliminates players with relative ease. Ryan’s life long goal has been to play at the Olympics and missing out in Athens due to injury was his career low. He will be keen to make amends in Beijing. At the recent Olympic Qualifying Tournament Ryan became just the 5th men’s Black Stick to play over 200 tests.
