Phil Burrows

Another of the current crop of Black Sticks players who is genuinely world class, Phil is also playing for Rotterdam in the Dutch National League, alongside team-mate Ryan Archibald. Phil is a hard running and devastating striker who threatens defences with penetrating runs and lethal shots on goal – and his reverse shot is one of the most accomplished in the game. Phil was born and bred in Wellington and has often turned out for them in the New Zealand NHL. He is now a very senior member of the team who is being used to cover the midfield from time to time. Phil’s career highs have been the silver medal they won at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and playing in Athens in 2004.
