Biography

Mark's first weightlifting comp was April 2000. He weighed 62.7 competeing in the U69kg division.

He represented NZ for the first time in 2000 at the Jnr Oceanias held on the Sunshine Coast.

He has competed at several Jnr & Snr Oceanians, and Commonwealth Champs.

In 2005 he competed at the Youth Olympics and Snr World Champs before lifting in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2006.

He has broken many records, from under 16, under 18 national records to breaking senior records still as a junior. His current records in the 69's are 131 Snatch and 160 C&J.

He is a boatbuilder by trade for Lloyd Stevenson Boat builders in East Tamaki.

His best moment was competing on the Commonwealth Games platform, where he did 3 personal bests (NZ records) on his second attempts and missing both 3rd attempts to place 6th.

He went to Pakuranga College and enjoyed playing many different sports from an early age. He represented East Auckland for rugby (Walter Dickson) as a Hooker in the front row, before seriously taking up Weightlifting.

Now he enjoys, when not training, spending time with friends and family out on the water, waterskiing, diving, tennis and also Indoor hang gliding.
