Mark's first weightlifting competition took place in April 2000. He weighed 62.7 competing in the U69kg division.
He represented NZ for the first time in 2000 at the Junior Oceania's held on the Sunshine Coast. Mark has now competed at several Junior & Senior Oceania's, and Commonwealth Championships.
In 2005 he competed at the Youth Olympics and Senior World Champs before lifting in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2006.
He has broken many records, from under 16, under 18 national records, to breaking senior records still as a junior. His current records in the 69's are 131 Snatch and 160 C&J.
Glasgow will be the third Commonwealth Games for Mark after he competed at the 2006 games in Melbourne and 2010 Delhi where he placed 6th. Mark has also competed at the 2008 Olympic Game in Beijing. He recently placed 1st at the 2014 Oceania Championship in his weight division (69kg) and has a current Commonwealth Ranking of 4th. His best moment was competing on the Commonwealth Games platform, where he did 3 personal bests (NZ records) on his second attempts and missing both 3rd attempts to place 6th.
He went to Pakuranga College and enjoyed playing many different sports from an early age. He represented East Auckland for rugby (Walter Dickson) as a Hooker in the front row, before seriously taking up Weightlifting.
