Glasgow 2014 was the third Commonwealth games for Kayla, captaining her team to a bronze medal finish against Trinidad and Tobago. She represented New Zealand at the 2006 games in Melbourne where the team placed 4th, as well as the 2010 games in Delhi where the team earned silver. Kayla has also competed at three Olympic Games including; Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. Kayla is considered as one of the most impressive female players, an inspiration to upcoming players. Kayla is a midfielder, she currently has 219 test caps and her shirt number is 1.

Kayla debuted for New Zealand in 2003 vs Canada while she was still a secondary school student. She began her international career as a striker but is currently playing midfield for the Black Sticks. Kayla is an outstanding midfielder who possess tight stick work and elimination skills. She has fantastic vision going forward and has the ability to set up dangerous attacking plays. Kayla strikes the ball very strongly and has a great range of goal scoring shots.
