Hayley is an English-born New Zealander who sprang on to the scene late last year. She was a semifinalist at the FINA World Short Course Championship over 50m and 100m freestyle in her first major international meet. She is the national record holder over short course for 50m and 100m freestyle and 100m individual medley.

New Zealanders couldn’t make an impression in today’s Olympic swimming heats. In the women’s 50m freestyle heats, Hayley Palmer was timed at 25.47s, which placed her 23rd of the field of 73.
