Slater, from Auckland had his best ever Finn World Championship result in 2008 with a silver medal at the Finn Gold Cup sailed across the Tasman in Melbourne.

He had a packed international season in 2007 in the Finn. Kiel Week, Holland Regatta and Semaine Olympique Francaise returned his best results with a 3rd a 1st and another 3rd.

Slater is 31 years old and represented New Zealand in the 49er class in Sydney 2000. He will also be competing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Race victories for Finn and Star Sailors

New Zealand’s Olympic Sailors fared well on day two of the Olympic Sailing Competition in Weymouth as both Dan Slater in the Finn, and Hamish Pepper and Jim Turner in the Star won a race each.
