Supports the right of all people to play sport that suits their needs by contributing to the promotion of sports programmes and competition at all levels.
Cooperation Agreement
The NZOC, Hillary Commission (now SPARC) & PENZ (Physical Education NZ) celebrated Olympic Day 1999 by signing a cooperation agreement designed to promote the fundamental principles all three share through sport. In particular the agreement aims to foster ethics and gender equality and promote human rights for every individual to practice sport in accordance with their needs.
As part of the Cooperation Agreement a delegate from PENZ attended the 8th IOC Sport for All Conference in Quebec, May 2000.
Olympic Day Run
Every year, through Starters & Strategies and PENZ publications the NZOC in association with PENZ encourages primary and intermediate schools to organise their own run. The run is designed to bring together children of all ages in a spirit of friendship and harmony, to enjoy the effort of participating. Schools taking part are asked to forward a photo and information on their event. Those that respond receive a special IOC Olympic Day Run Certificate for their school.
