Simon’s experience in sport and the governance/management of sport spans many years and roles including Chief Executive of the award winning Trusts Stadium in Auckland. Under Simon’s leadership the Stadium was awarded the rights to host several international events including the World Netball Championships in 2007, World Junior Badminton Championships and IAAF Athletic meetings.

Currently Simon is Chief Executive of West Auckland Trust Services (The Trusts) a NZ Top 200 company responsible for the management of several restaurants, bars, hotel and hospitality businesses in West Auckland.                   

As well as extensive business, fundraising and event management experience Simon brings “hands on” national sporting body experience to the NZOC Board having formerly served as Gymsports New Zealand’s Chairman and as former Chief Executive of Yachting New Zealand. Simon also has a strong appreciation of Olympic sports preparation and the needs of Olympic athletes and aspiring athletes having been appointed to SPARC’s Talent Identification Taskforce.  He is a member of the UNITEC School of Sport Management Advisory Committee and has previously worked for the Hillary Commission in a youth sport focused capacity.

Previous governance roles include Tourism Auckland’s Board and roles on the NZOC Board’s Audit Committee and Governance Working Committee. Simon was elected to the NZOC Board in 2005 and has served as Deputy Chair since 2008. He was re-elected for his third term in May 2013.

Simon is chair of the New Zealand Olympic Committee’s Selection Panel for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and was a selector for London 2012, Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010 and Turino 2006 Olympic Games and the 2010 Delhi and 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
