New Zealand Olympic Committee Confirms Zero Tolerance for Doping

NZOC Confirms Zero Tolerance for Doping Following the news that cyclist, Adam Stewart, has received a two-year ban for the attempted use of a banned substance, the NZOC today confirms its anti-doping stance.

New Zealand Olympic Committee Secretary General and IOC Member Barry Maister was disappointed to hear of todays findings. New Zealand athletes take pride in competing cleanly and it is very disappointing to learn of the offence, he said. The athlete concerned is now ineligible for both the Commonwealth Games and the upcoming London Olympic Games in 2012 and we are working with Bike NZ to select another cyclist to the Delhi team.

The Commonwealth Games are just 24 days away and the addition of athletes and other accredited personnel to the team now rests with the Commonwealth Games Federation.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee will continue to work closely with Drug Free Sport New Zealand, the IOC and the CGF in the fight against doping in sport.
