Charlotte's on top of the world Commonwealth Games call young gymnast The Press/Stuff.co.nz article: A surprise scholarship will help a young Christchurch gymnast travel to the Commonwealth Youth Games at the Isle of Man. Charlotte Sullivan, 13, will be awarded the Anthony Wilding Scholarship for Prowess in Sport at her school, Kirkwood Intermediate. The $1200 scholarship comes from New Zealand documentary maker Anna Wilding's charity, the Wilding Foundation. Wilding said she was inspired to help after seeing a flyer that Charlotte had distributed to raise funds so she could represent New Zealand at the Isle of Man event. She was touched by Charlotte's "tenacity, determination and hard work", as well as her "obvious talent". "This is the best of New Zealand and I am happy we can support that so Charlotte has an easier time being present on the international stage." Charlotte, who trains for 32 hours every week, was placed third, overall, at her first international competition, the Victorian State Championships in Melbourne, this year. She also won the beam section and was third on the vault. Charlotte, who started gymnastics at age six, hoped to compete at the Olympic Games. Her mother, Andrea Sullivan, said the scholarship was "very exciting". She was impressed by Charlotte's hard work. "I just think it's amazing, her determination during earthquake times," Sullivan said. "Her goal was to get to the Commonwealth Youth Games and she made it." http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/5392694/Charlottes-on-top-of-the-world
